Dagel's 18 lead Cherokee to victory

Cherokee's enigmatic Braves put the hammer down on defense here on Jan. 17th to overwhelm a good South O'Brien team 55-34, in boys basketball action.

The Braves had three players in double figures, with sophomore post Brock Dagel leading the way with 18 points, followed by Matt Koch 14, and Tyler Jones 10. Kyle Schuck added six points and six rebounds for Cherokee.

Dagel and Koch led the Braves on the boards with seven rebounds each, and Nick Parker grabbed five. Jones led in assists with four, and Koch and Schuck tallied three apiece.

Jarod Syndergaard paced the Wolverines with 16 points, while Ryan Brasser totaled 11. Brasser had a double-double with 10 rebounds, and Syndergaard grabbed seven.

The Braves sank 26-58 field goals for 45 percent, and made 8-16 free throws. South O'Brien notched just 16-61 shots against the Braves tough defense for a cold 26 percent, and cashed in 6-8 free throws.

Cherokee took a precarious 9-7 lead in the first quarter, and expanded that to 27-19 at halftime, and led 41-25 after three periods.
