Mustang Kara Nelson places twice at Ames

AMES - Cherokee Washington alumnus Kara Nelson, a sophomore at Morningside College, had two of the three top 10 finishes posted by the Morningside College women in the Iowa State Open indoor track and field meet, run recently in Ames.

Mustang junior Erin Keitjes finished eighth in the Women's 5000 meter race, with a time of 18:19.39 and Nelson finished ninth, in 18:30.61. Nelson also finished in 10th place in the women's mile run, with a time of 5:10.00.

The Morningside College men's and women's track teams opened their 2009 indoor track season a week ago at the John Dalton Open at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.

Among the Mustangs earning places was sophomore Kara Nelson, daughter of Jim and Sue Nelson of Cherokee. Kara had a pair of third place finishes, with times of 5:11.65 in the mile and 10:35.94 in the 3000 meters.
