Dr. Bruce Ellingson, professor of Media Studies at Buena Vista University, and Gary Fandel, a photojournalist from Des Moines, judged the photographs submitted by both amateur and professional area photographers, and the judges announced their awards at the Museum on Saturday evening, January 10. Monetary prizes were awarded to first, second and third place winners in both the amateur and professional categories.
Dave Ellis, Director of Cherokee Parks and Recreation, also chose eight photos from the display that he would like to hang temporarily at the Cherokee Community Center, and will contact the artists for their permission to do so.
First place in the Amateur category was awarded to David Moore of Le Mars for his photo "Country Winter Sunset;" second place went to Connie Gilmore of Linn Grove for "Frost Flora;" and third place was awarded to Alexandra Bailey of Pierson for "Bird Tracks."
In the professional category, The Chronicle Times' Mike Leckband of Calumet took first place with "VFW Statue" and second place, with "Orange Sky."
