SB-L Warriors sweep MMC teams

MARCUS - Tough Sergeant Bluff-Luton blew by the youthful Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn basketball teams here on Jan. 30, with the SB-L girls claiming the opener 65-39, and the boys winning the nightcap 82-37.

Kayla Foresman scored 12 points, and Rachel McDermott 11 to lead the host Eagles, while Jena Mittelstadt tallied nine points.

Foresman and Ashley Schneider led MMC on the glass with five rebounds each, while Mittelstadt grabbed four. McDermott led her team in assists with three.

MMC sank 14-36 field goals for 39 percent, and netted 13-22 free throws. The Eagles were 2-5 from three-point range.

In the boys game, the visiting Warriors rushed to a 26-5 lead in the first quarter and ballooned that to 48-16 at halftime on the way to the blow-out win.

Jordan Boekhout led MMC's scoring with 15 points, and John Hoefling added six. Boekhout also led his team in rebounding with six, and Hoefling snagged four. Michael O'Neal led SB-L with 16 points.

The Eagles made 13-44 field goals for 30 percent, and SB-L meshed 32-58 for a scalding 55 percent. The winners made 10-14 free throws, and MMC was 9-12 from the line.
