HOLSTEIN - In their boys' basketball match-up with River Valley here on Jan. 30th, the Galva-Holstein Pirates "played pretty sloppy in the first half, with many turnovers," according to their coach, Bob Lee. But, he said, they "played a much cleaner second half with a lot less turnovers."
As a result, the Pirates cut a six point half-time deficit to one going into the 4th quarter, and the Western Valley Conference rivals were tied, 52-52, at the end of regulation time. In the extra stanza, Coach Lee's Pirates hit 12 of their 14 free throw attempts and they went on to a 68-62 win over the Wolverines.
Mark Cronin played a good over-all game, as he led Pirate scorers with 24 points, and added 10 rebounds and seven steals. Taylor Nees, like Cronin, registered a double-double, with 15 points and 10 rebounds; and point guard Jordan Else scored 14, had four boards, two steals and seven assists.
