MMC advances four wrestlers into Districts

Lehnhoff, Godbersen, Letsche win Sectional titles

SIOUX RAPIDS - The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn Eagles advanced four grapplers into the Feb. 14th Class 1A District competition in Sioux Center after qualifying in Sectional action here on Feb. 7th.

Three MMC wrestlers won their respective weight classes, including Jacob Lehnhoff at 140, Russ Godbersen at 145, and Jerad Letsche at 152. Blaine Dammann was runner-up at 160.

Lehnhoff pinned Ryan Sawyer of Alta in 4:58, beat Heath Marchand of Graettinger-Terril 15-2, and beat Jake Davidson of Woodbury Central 9-0 to win his title.

Godbersen received a first-round bye, pinned Cody Duhn of Alta in 1:54, and then beat Michael Jensen of G-T 2-1 in a thrilling match.

Letsche pinned Drew Skattebo of G-T in 2:18, pinned Ethan Lindquist of Sioux Central in 1:17, and beat Sean Bainbridge of Kingsley-Pierson 15-4 to advance.

Dammann received a bye, beat Jared McCoy of Woodbury Central, and then lost 3-2 to Kas Schany of G-T in an exciting match.

Tyler Pearson at 125, and Jordan Petersen at 189 placed third for MMC.

G-T won the team title with 206 points, followed by WC 175, Lawton-Bronson 161, Alta 158, MMC 149, K-P 127, SC 71, and Hinton 45.5.
