LE MARS - Host Le Mars Gehlen jumped out of the box with a quick 19-6 lead in the first quarter and grew that bulge to 34-16 at halftime, on the way to a 67-40 War Eagle Conference victory over the Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn boys here on Feb. 6.

Jordan Boekhout paced the MMC boys with 13 points, while Jesse Kunzweiler added eight, Neal Bunt seven, and Kyle Wester six.

Chris Gabriel led balanced Gehlen with 14 points, followed by Trevor Bonma 12, Brad Langel 11, and Tyler Meyer 10.

The Jays cashed in 15-22 free throws, and MMC sank 5-11.

"The boys gave a good effort, but Gehlen just had too many weapons for us to contend with," said MMC coach Pat Bird. "We are looking forward to getting Will Hanson back in our lineup. He's been out with a knee injury since January 29. That should give us more balance on offense, as well as helping us out on the defensive end. Gehlen focused their defense on Jordan Boekhout in order to limit his touches."
