| This photo shows the comfort, accessibility, and durability of stadium seating, such as planned for the Cherokee High School baseball and softball fields. The Cherokee Athletic Boosters are conducting a fund-raising campaign to install new seating and improve the infrastructure of the ball fields. |
Donations now being accepted for infrastructure work
The Sam Doupe Complex on Indian Street in Cherokee offers baseball and softball fans the combination of great ball games and a beautiful view of the stunning Little Sioux River Valley.
Even better, plans are now under way by the Cherokee Athletic Booster Club to further enhance that great summer ball experience by addressing fans' accessibility and visibility with new stadium seating for both the high school baseball and softball fields.
Plans also include construction of new scorers/press box facilities as the existing ones have become dilapidated and hazardous, protective netting, and some dirtwork, including landscaping in the vicinity of the graveled parking lot west of the softball field.
These renovations will give the Cherokee School District some of the finest ball fields in the state and enhance the total experience of baseball and softball fans watching their favorite teams in total, modern comfort.
The Boosters are now actively soliciting donations for the money needed to pay for the infrastructure work, including concrete, dirtwork, netting, and the scorers/press boxes.
The Booster Club will be offering the seats for sale in the near future. The durable, attractive stadium-style seating just like in the Big Leagues will sell for $200 per seat and each will include an engraved name plate recognizing the donor(s).
Citizens can buy one in honor of their children, family, and loved ones, or to just help support our baseball and softball programs.
Over the past several years, the Cherokee Braves baseball squad has taken on legendary proportions as the Braves have won the Lakes Conference four of the past five years and have made the State Baseball Championships in five of the last seven years, including winning the State 2A title in 2007 and finishing second in 2008. This year, the Braves are favored to win it all again!
Year after year, the Cherokee softball team is highly competitive in the rugged Lakes Conference and has experienced post-season success in the past.
Those wishing to donate to the infrastructure funds, buy a seat(s), or those with questions, can contact Booster Club treasurer Barb Schuck at 225-3056, or Boosters John Woods at 261-5542, or Mike Pitts at 225-3243.
All donations are tax deductible.
