Jamie L. Spence, 37, of Cherokee, died on Feb. 10, 2009 in the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services were held on Feb. 13 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Reverend Larry Lemke officiated. Burial will be at a later date. Greenwood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.greenwoodfuneral.com.

Jamie was born on Feb. 16, 1971 in Spencer, to Edward J. and Diane (Reusch) Spence. She attended Washington High School in Cherokee, and graduated in 1989. After high school, Jamie entered the United States Army and was stationed in Hawaii. Following her military service, she worked for a time at a bank in Tampa, Fla. and also worked in real estate. Jamie then moved back to Cherokee, and attended Western Iowa Tech, receiving training as a surgical technician. She most recently worked at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove. Jamie was forced to stop working due to her illness.

Jamie was preceded in death by her fraternal grandparents;her maternal grandfather; a son, Nicholas (1991);and her cousins, Brian and Russ.

She is survived by three daughters, Samantha Lynn Colon-Spence of Cherokee; Jasmine Renee Johnson of Omaha, Neb.; and Jacquetta Emily Spence of Omaha, Neb.; a son, Peterjon Spence of Cherokee; her parents, Ed and Diane Spence of Cherokee; a sister, Michelle Pedersen and her husband, Bryan, of Cherokee; a brother, Michael Spence and his wife, Lisa, of Cherokee; her maternal grandmother, Margaret Reusch of Paullina; two nieces and two nephews; and numerous aunts and uncles and cousins.
