CORRECTIONVILLE - The River Valley boys basketball team closed their regular season on Feb. 10 with a quality 60-49 win over a tough Remsen-Union squad, which had won four in a row coming into the game.
Anthony Volkert had a monster game for RV, with 25 points and 16 rebounds, while Zach Hullinger added 13 points and Austin Hansen also had 13 points, as well as five assists.
The Wolverines split a pair of games last week, falling 55-46 to Maple Valley/Anthon-Oto, and defeating Kingsley-Pierson 64-27.
Volkert paced River Valley's scoring in the loss to MVAO with 21 points, while Austin Hansen and Ethan Todd added eight apiece. Volkert also grabbed nine rebounds to lead in that category, while Todd snagged seven, Hansen six, and Hullinger five. Hansen also led his team in steals (4) and assists (3).
Volkert and Hullinger tallied 19 points each in the win over K-P, with Hansen chipping in with 12 points. Volkert and Todd led RV on the glass with eight rebounds each, with Hansen pocketing seven, and Hullinger six.
Sam Lundt dished out eight assists, and Hansen had four, along with four steals to lead RV in those departments.
District play for the Wolverines will begin on Thursday, February 19, when they play Woodbury Central at Moville. River Valley's record now stands at 11-7.
