MMC hosts Youth Wrestling Tourney

MARCUS - On Saturday, January 31, the MMC Youth Wrestlers held their annual Wrestling Tournament. The numbers were down from two years ago - the last tournament held here - but over all the day was a success. A total of 120 young wrestlers competed. The morning was started off by Danica Hanson singing the National Anthem, and wrestling started promptly at 9 am.

In the Pee Wee division: Andrew Barinsky placed 2nd, Noah Folkema placed 3rd, Nick Nielsen placed 3rd, Jared Hinspeter placed 4th, Braedon Kamphoff placed 4th, Brent Scott placed 3rd, Conner Rassel placed 1st beating his oponents 8 - 5 and 11 - 0, Collin Law placed 3rd, Andrew Prescott placed 4th, Colton Meyer placed 3rd, Dean Jenness placed 2nd, Douglas Gengler placed 1st with two pins each in about 30 seconds, and Wyatt Rassel placed 2nd. The Pee Wee's had four teams competing for the Team trophy in that division: MMC, MOC-FV, and Cherokee were in the running, but the Akron-Westfield team took home the trophy.

In the Novice division: Tristan Olson placed 1st with two pins each in just over 30 seconds, Drew Woodall placed 3rd, Jesse Martin placed 4th, and Baden Letsche placed 2nd. The Novices had three teams competing: Aurelia, and MOC-FV had to watch as Akron-Westfield took home this trophy as well that came down to a tie breaker.

In the Junior division: Ben McDaniel placed 2nd, Derek Erdman placed 1st with two pins, Jordan Gengler placed 1st also with two pins. The Juniors also had three teams competing: MMC and MOC-FV saw Akron-Westfield again take another trophy home.

In the Senior division: Andrew Hoefling placed 2nd, and Justin Theisen placed 3rd, Jake Meehan placed 1st, Dereck Hayes placed 2nd, Tyler Nielsen placed 3rd, Jacob Letsche placed 4th, and Tanner Cronin placed 3rd. MMC formed two teams to compete with each other, as there were no other teams competing, the MMC Team 1 kept this senior team trophy.

Thank You to all those volunteers who came and worked a shift, or all day, for those who helped set up the night before, and clean up afterward. Thanks to all those individuals who brought baked goods or other food items.
