Exciting girls game decided in final three seconds

CORRECTIONVILLE - Charlee Brewer scored a three-point basket with three seconds left in the game to give River Valley a thrilling 33-32 victory over arch-rival Galva-Holstein here last week.

The Pirates led 17-14 at halftime, and 28-24 after three frames, before RV outscored them 9-4 in the final eight minutes, including Brewer's courageous game winner.

Heather Joslin led G-H in scoring with 18 points, and Breanna Mathes tallied seven. Joslin also grabbed six rebounds, and Brooke Wiese and Victoria Andresen pocketed five apiece. Joslin also had six steals.

River Valley sank 17-43 field goals for 40 percent, and was 1-5 from the free throw line. G-H made 14-34 field goals for 41 percent, and was 4-11 from the line.

"This was another tough loss to River Valley," said G-H coach Ken Slater. "They seem to have our number. We had control of the game from the second quarter until the last six seconds. Give River Valley credit as they played good defense in the end and Charlee Brewer made the game-winning shot. We had a chance to win it on the following play, but Victoria Andresen's shot rattled off the back of the rim."

No other River Valley statistics were made available.
