LAWTON - Cherokee opened Class 2A District Tournament action on Feb. 14th, traveling to Lawton to play the host Lawton-Bronson Eagles.

At the end of the night, the Cherokee girls came back home on the short end of a 63-33 score.

Shelby Dilla led Cherokee with 12 points and five assists; Misty Bruhn had six points and six rebounds; and Jackie Wilson, Liz Dawson, and Julie Miller had nine, seven, and seven rebounds, respectively.

Cherokee sank 10-48 field goals for a frigid 21 percent, and was 10-22 from the charity stripe. Hot-shooting L-B made 23-41 field goals for a sizzling 56 percent, and was 12-32 from the line as the teams combined for a whopping 54 free throws in the foul-plagued game.

The host Eagles led 15-11 after one quarter, 33-21 at halftime, and 44-26 after three frames, before going on a 19-7 scoring run to seal the deal.

"As with every other Saturday night game this season we really struggled," said Cherokee coach Abby James. "The girls came out ready to play, but we hit foul trouble early. We put up a hard fight the first quarter, but things didn't go our way after that. Our shots stopped falling and we missed many opportunities.

Liz Dawson had a good night on the inside once again for us. She really has stepped up her game, playing aggressively these past few games. Our two seniors also played a very aggressive last game.

"Although we have had a tough season (0-22) we have really grown and now hold some varsity experience under our belts. Our seniors - Shelby and Misty - will be missed and we wish them luck in their future endeavors."
