The Cherokee Chamber of Commerce is currently in its 2009 membership drive and membership renewal season.

The purpose of the drive is to increase the membership for the Chamber. Currently, the Chamber has 210 members. There is also an incentive for current members to renew their membership by March 1. Current members are encouraged to renew membership by March 1 to receive a five percent discount on their membership dues.

Members of the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce consist of a variety of businesses all having the goal of promoting positive growth for the enhancement of the Cherokee community. Membership to the Chamber is open to all businesses, and individuals are also encouraged to become members.

It is estimated that half of Cherokee businesses are not Chamber members, according to Julie Hering Kent, the Executive Director of the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce.

According to Chamber officials, membership offers many benefits. One of those benefits is being listed on the Chamber website and having a direct link to your business. Also, members will be listed in the Chamber membership directory and have many networking opportunities.

Some of the other membership entitlements are opportunities to serve on committees and event participation, a new member reception, Ribbon Cuttings, promotion with local media outlets, a monthly newsletter, the ability to redeem Chamber Bucks at your business, access to newcomers' list, low-cost educational seminars, membership rosters, access to Chamber literature, and your business also having a voice in local Chamber promotions.

One of the biggest tools that the Chamber has to offer membership is their bulk mailing privileges, as all members have the opportunity to use the Chamber's bulk mailing stamp. This is a substantial saving for a business.

Membership also comes with one other unique opportunity for networking -- the popular Chamber Coffees. Each week a different business or other Chamber members host the Chamber Coffee at 9:30 a.m. on Friday morning at their location - a Cherokee tradition that been going on for over 30 years. What makes that so unique is that it's members meeting other members. The Chamber Coffees gives a business owner a chance to get to know other owners in a social environment.

The Chamber also oversees many community activities such as the Agri-Business Committee, Ag Show, fifth grade Farm Tour in September, Cherokee PRCA Rodeo, Rodeo activities including the Rodeo Parade, the annual Street Dance, Tourism Committee, Hot Dog Days and the Cherokee Youth Summer Ball Association's (CYSBA) parade of teams, Crazy Days Activities, Christmas Parade, Christmas Open House and the Cherokee Welcome Baskets.

As a part of the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce, a member has the satisfaction and prestige of being a part of one of the most dynamic and beneficial organizations in Cherokee.

The chance to be involved in community events and work with other businesses will also help bring customers to the door of your own business.
