Mary A. Borgheiinck, 60, of Marcus passed away Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.

Funeral services took place at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 21 at Grace Untied Methodist Church in Marcus, with Rev. Gary McDonough officiating. Interment followed at the Marcus -- Amherst Cemetery. Earnest -- Johnson Funeral Home of Marcus was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Agnes Borgheiinck, the daughter of June (Provancha) and Stephen John Borgheiinck, was born March 22, 1948, in Sioux City, one of nine children to bless this union.

Mary graduated from South Sioux City High School, among the class of 1966.

On Oct. 5, 1996, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus, Mary was united in marriage to Robert Duane Kranig. They found great joy in sharing their leisure time together when attending Christian music concerts, especially, " Newsboys," traveling, dining out, going to movies, and camping with family and friends.

Some of Mary's other interests and hobbies included cheering for the Miami Dolphins, reading, fishing, going for walks, collecting clown memorabilia, attending "Art Splash" with her daughter Jill and her grandchildren, tending to her pet cat, "Whiskers," hosting and attending family gatherings, and baking her "signature" cakes for her family, friends and special events!

Mary had a true passion for life! She possessed a great sense of humor, was a true friend and caregiver, and lovingly gave of herself in any capacity that she could.

For the past nine years, Mary has loved and treasured her employment as a Children's Public Librarian at the Cherokee Public Library. When visiting the library, the children seemed to adore and gravitate to Mary, and she felt the same devotion to them! Mary had a particular soft-spot in her heart for special needs children and adults.

Mary was a member of the Kiwanis Club in Cherokee and attended several Via-De-Cristo Christian Retreats.

Preceding Mary in death were her son, Rodney D. Johnson, Jr. in 1986 and her sister, Theresa Offerman.

Mary's love and legacy will live on in the hearts of her husband, Robert D. Kranig of Marcus; her daughter, Jillena (Bruce) Miller of Sioux City; her step-daughters, Vanessa and Crista Kranig of Sioux City; her parents, Stephen and June Borgheiinck of South Sioux City, Neb.; her grandchildren, Damian, Vianna, and Kalyope Miller and Braydon Kranig; her siblings, Stephen (Monica) Borgheiinck, Jr. of Austrailia, Denise (Jim) Bligh of Cushing, Edie (Rick) Simons of South Sioux City, Neb., Marsha (Dave) Anderson of Grand Island, Neb., Paula (Duane) Jensen of South Sioux City, Neb., Mike (Shirley) Borgheiinck of Sioux City, Leonard (Tara) Borgheiinck of Omaha, Neb. and Keith (Mechelle) Offerman of South Sioux City, Neb. She will also be dearly missed by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
