If your child will be four years old by September 15, 2009, they will be eligible to receive free preschool programming provided through the Cherokee Community School District. This free 4 year-old Preschool Program is accredited by the NAEYC Academy for Early Childhood Program.
The Cherokee Community School District was awarded state funds through the statewide voluntary preschool program for 4-year-old children. The purpose of the statewide preschool program is to expand the opportunity for Iowa's young children to access quality preschool environments and enter school ready to learn.
The preschool classrooms are located in the Early Childhood Learning Center building. The classrooms are led by teachers with four year bachelor's degrees in the area of early childhood education. The program uses High/Scope Curriculum.
The ECLC holds a morning and an afternoon session. Classes are held Monday through Friday, with two Fridays per month in which no classes are held due to home visits. In-town transportation is provided by the Cherokee Community School District.
If you are interested in having your 4-year-old child participate in a free and quality program, pick up an application at The Early Childhood Learning Center or call 712-225-6774 for more information.
