Funeral services were held on Feb. 25 at the Meadow Star United Methodist Church in rural Washta. with Pastor Bill Cotten officiating and burial was in the Grand Meadow Cemetery. Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee was in charge of funeral arrangements
Emma was born on May 13, 1924 at Schleswig, to Peter Herman and Marie (Bohrnsen) Petersen. She attended school in the Schleswig area, and was married to Marlin R. Hodge on April 6, 1947 at Marshalltown, Iowa. Emma worked in the Telephone Office in Pierson for several years and was also a homemaker. She was a member of the Meadow Star United Methodist Church. She belonged to the Siouxland Mended Hearts and the Senior Congregate Meals. Emma enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, needle point, sewing, cross stitch and trivia. She was a resident of Pierson until 2004, when she moved to New Brighton, Minn. to be close to her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Herman Delfskamp; her husband Marlin Hodge on Nov. 14, 1998; and two brothers-in-law, Paul Hodge and Glenn Hegre.
She is survived by her three children, Joyce Gokey and her husband John of New Brighton, Minn.; Dean Hodge and his special friend Pam Schilling of Little Falls, Minn.; and Colleen Hodge of Kimberling City, Mo.; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four step- great grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Hodge of Washta and Garnet Hegre of Grovetown, Ga.
