Washington High Music Dept presents Pops Concert

Don't stop the 'Pop' - The Cherokee Washington High School Music Department recently presented "A Pops Concert" in the high school auditorium. The Music Department is made up of the WHS Concert Band, WHS Concert Choir, and the WHS Jazz Band. Pictured above is the WHS Concert Choir, as members performed choral highlights from the musical "Mamma Mia!"

On Feb. 23, the Washington High School Music Department performed "A Pops Concert" in Washington High School's auditorium. The WHS Music Department, which is made up of the WHS Concert Band (right), WHS Concert Choir (center row left) and the WHS Jazz Band (below).

The concert begin with the WHS Concert Band (below right) performing "Somewhere" from West Side Story. The music continued with new arrangements featuring songs from video games like "Halo, Civilization IV and Kingdom Hearts."

The WHS Concert Choir then took the stage and performed choral highlights from the musical "Mamma Mia." The highlights consisted of "I Have A Dream, with soloist Jenae Lundell; "Mamma Mia," " S.O.S.," with soloist John Bieber; "Take A Chance On Me," with soloist Liz Ross, "Thank You For the Music," with soloist Michelle McGarry; "Dancing Queen" and "Waterloo."

The Cherokee Jazz Band closed the show.

The WHS Jazz Band finished the night with their Contest Set "Choose Your Blues, Dream of the Return and The Chicken." Recently, the WHS Jazz Band had placed 2nd out of 50 bands in the Class 2A competition held at Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City.

The Directors of the concert were Paul McEntaffer (band) and Amy Sarchet (choir).
