The newly-formed Cherokee Senior Citizens Center had a very successful turnout for their first Kick-off Potluck recently at the Cherokee Community Center facility.
More than 60 area residents attended, with a majority of them voting to name the new Center "The Good Times Place." In addition, the Center's Board members approved creating a permanent, positive motto - "A Great Place To Live, Learn, and Laugh Together."
Future meetings of the group will be in the lower level of the Community Center, which recentlly underwent at $479,000 major renovation. The calendar of events also will be posted in the Community Center.
The Board is working on a suggested list of ideas and areas of interest for future activities, including birdwatching, book club, various card games, special guest speakers, painting, crafting, shuffle board, and many more. Team leaders are being contacted by the Board members, and volunteers are always welcomed.
The "coffee is on" daily, Monday through Friday, and cards and games are also available for seniors' pleasure.
The next Potluck will be on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, at noon. There will be a special guest speaker and fun entertainment.
Senior Board members include Dave Ellis, Harold Ferrin, Bud Clow, Marilyn Leinbaugh, Bev Zieman, Janet Lucas, and president Morgan Gravenholt.
"The Good Times Place" invites all area seniors age 50 and over to join the Center. Those interested can contact any Board member with questions, suggestions, or ideas.
