Louis Gravenish, 97, of Cherokee, died March 3, 2009 at the Cherokee Villa Nursing Home in Cherokee, following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held on March 7 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, with Rev. Armand Bertrand officiating. Burial was in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cherokee. Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee was in charge of funeral arrangements.
Louie was born on August 15, 1911 near Maryhill in Cherokee County to Theodore and Pauline (Weis) Gravenish. He attended high school at Immaculate Conception Catholic High School in Cherokee and graduated in 1930. Louie farmed in the Cherokee area for many years. He enjoyed trapping, hunting, dancing, going to casinos, and attending dog races.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Arnold, Cyril "Hap", and Bertin; and one sister, Viola Schmidt.
He is survived by a brother, William Gravenish of Modesto, Calif.
