Aurelians to receive 'Trophy Fish' award

CEDAR FALLS - Four Aurelia men have been invited to receive the 2008 Iowa Big Fish Angler Award at the Eastern Iowa Sports Show in Cedar Falls March 13-15, in recognition of the trophy fish caught in Iowa waters and registered with the DNR in 2008.

The Aurelians inclulde Burton F. Tate Jr., Kyle Menke, Philip Winterhof, and Russell Winterhof.

According to show sponsors, the four men each caught a 16.5-inch Bass - White/Wiper on West Okoboji in Dickinson County.

Trophy Fish awards will receive a signed and serialized print commemorating the trophy fish they caught. The print is signed and serialized by artist Rick Morkel, who will personally present the print at the show. The award is co-sponsored by KCRG-TV in Cedar Rapids.

Nearly 540 Iowans caught trophy fish in Iowa waters in 2008 and registered their catch with the DNR. To qualify, a fish must meet or exceed specific species length and weight minimums a determined by the DNR. Trophy fish awards are given by the DNR for every type of game fish found in Iowa waters, ranging from trout, bass, panfish, perch, carp, and sheephead varieties.
