Volunteer John O'Connor reads a book about the ABCs to 21-month old Tanisha Gibson at the Cherokee Community Center on Wednesday, as part of the Readers 2000 Program.
The Readers 2000 program was started in the year 2000 by former Iowa First Lady Christy Vilsack, and locally the program is sponsored by the Cherokee Public Library.

Volunteers read books to youngsters 5 years of age or younger at the Cherokee Community Center each month on the first Wednesday of the month.
