Hunzelman, Putzier & Co., PLC released an audit report on Cherokee County on March 11, 2009.
The County had local tax revenue of $15,909,660 for the year ended June 30, 2008, which included $757,443 in tax credits from the state. The County forwarded $11,442,498 of the local tax revenue to the townships, school districts, cities, and other taxing bodies in the County.
The County retained $4,467,162 of the local tax revenue to finance County operations, a 10 percent increase from the prior year. Other revenues included charges for service of $1,034,831, operating grants and contributions of $3,657,586, capital grants and contributions of $795,171, unrestricted investment earnings of $223,539, and other general revenues of $372,169.
Expenses for County operations totaled $9,676,046, a five percent increase form the prior year. Expenses included $4,014,308 for Roads and Transportation, $1,612,204 for Administration, and $1,454,667 for Mental Health.
