SIOUX CENTER - The Cherokee Washington High girls track and field squad featured three top 10 place winners at the March 19th Lakes Conference Indoor Track and Field Meet at Dordt College here.
Lynn Carlson placed fourth in the shot put with a 32-11 throw, Liz Dawson was sixth in the high jump with a 4-4 effort, and Clare Tuttle was sixth in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 9.67.
Katy Hart was 12th for Cherokee in the 55-meter dash, in a time of 8.36, and the 4x400 relay unit of Hart, Dawson, Lauren Husman, and Claudia Campuzano was 12th in a time of 5:03.
"It was great to get the season started, and to see the girls get a chance to compete," said first-year Cherokee coach Jolene Hultgren. "Some of the events were not the same as what we would have at a regular track meet, but it was a good opportunity to see where we are at.
"We had some girls place in the top 10 in their events which is great for this early in the season. Once the outdoor meets get started, the girls will be working hard to improve their times and distances, and to be competitive in their events."
