Tomahawk Relays fields assembled

The annual Cherokee Tomahawk Relays are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, April 6-7, at George Hicks Field on the Washington High School Campus.

The girls competition this year features 16 teams in two classes, with the 2A teams including Sioux City North, Sioux City West, Sioux City Heelan, Le Mars, Spencer, Spirit Lake Park, Estherville-LC, and MOC-Floyd Valley.

The 1A field includes host Cherokee, Emmetsburg, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, South O'Brien, Central Lyon, Sioux Central, Aurelia, and Le Mars JV.

The 2A boys competition includes Sioux City North, Sioux City West, ═ioux City Heelan, Spencer, and Cherokee.

The 1A field includes Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn, South O'Brien, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, Sioux Central, Central Lyon, and Alta.

Long-time Cherokee and area preps' Super Fan Kenny Bern is the 2009 Tomahawk Honorary Referee presiding over this year's Tomahawk Relays - Northwest Iowa's Track & Feld Classic.

Action for both the girls (Monday) and boys (Tuesday) meets begins at 5 p.m.

Volunteers are still needed for Cherokee track and field meets this season, including timers, pickers, exchanges, and field events. Those interested should call Cherokee WHS athletic director Neil Phipps at WHS at 225-6755.
