Oil spill on Hwy. 59

Thursday, April 16, 2009

City and State workers responded to an oil spill on US Hwy. 59 and Elm Street in Cherokee on Friday. A tanker truck owned by Interlink Transportation of Le Mars and driven by Robert Moon, also of Le Mars, spilled out several gallons of oil that Moon had just loaded up with at American Natural Soy. The oil spilled out of the top of the tank for about one mile on Hwy. 59 from American Natural Soy to downtown Cherokee due to the lid not being secured. No citations were issued but Cherokee Police Chief Steve Schuck did say that Moon would be billed for labor by the City of Cherokee. Photo by Chris Reed
