CMS 8th girls have 'great' meet

The Cherokee 8th grade girls' track team competed in the first meet of the season Tuesday, a dual with their Storm lake counterparts, and Cherokee coach Julie Hummel felt that her team had a "great first meet. The girls competed hard."

The Cherokee girls earned first place in several events, including Emily Cosgrove in the shot put, with a toss of 22-11; the 4 x 800 relay team of Megan Carlson, Hanna Henson, Megan Hummel, and Yesenia Castro, in a time of 11:44.29; Leah Peterson in the 7-flight hurdles, in a time of :16.73; Megan Carlson in the 800 meter run, in 2:43.76; and the 4 x 400 relay team of Katie Bice, Hanna Henson, Megan Hummel, and Yesenia Castro, in 5:11.32.

Other Cherokee performances included Shelby Bush 20-3 in the shot put; Megan Carlson 63-6 in the discus; Shelby Bush 58-5 1/2 in the discus; Emily Cosgrove 49-3 1/2 in the discus; Hanna Henson 9-0 1/2 in the long jump; Yesenia Castro 8-9 1/2 in the long jump; Paige Reinert 8-9 1/2 in the long jump; Cassandra Fullerton, 16.88 in the 100 meter dash; Leah Peterson 17.16 in the 100; Kenedy Klein 18.02 in the 100; Katie Bice 1:16.00 in the 400 meters; Paige Reinert 1:18.31 in the 400; Paige Reinert 32.57 in the 200 meters; Kenedy Klein 37.59 in the 200; Casandra Fullerton 38.62 in the 200; the sprint medley relay team 2:12.53; Yesenia Castro, 3:02.70 in the 800 meters; and the 4 x 100 relay team 1:11.09.
