ORANGE CITY - Due to injury and illness, a partial Cherokee Braves track and field squad participated in the Orange City Unity Christian Knight Relays here Monday night, with the Braves medley relay notching the team's highest finish - runner-up.
Cherokee's medley relay of Sam Hinkhouse, Tony Hunt, Dan Bieber, and Philip Bieber clocked a 3:55 for second place.
The Braves 4x400 relay of Dan Bieber, Luke Pearson, Philip Bieber, and Zach Mosbach was fourth in a time of 3:47; the 4x800 relay of Pearson, Dan Bieber, Zach Mosbach, and Jakob Hummel was fourth in 9:19; and the shuttle hurdle relay of Nolan Sampson, Pearson, Alanzo Ruble, and Matt Koch was sixth in 1:09.
Pearson also placed fifth in the 400 hurdles in a time of 1:02, and Nate O'Bryan was sixth in the 3200 meters in 11:10.
Cherokee runs at the Sheldon Invitational tonight in Sheldon, and hosts the Cherokee Co-Ed Relays Tuesday night in Cherokee.
The combination of prom, all-day rain, and injury hampered the Braves production at the Sioux City Relays Saturday.
Cherokee's Kyle Schuett, the defending Iowa State Class 2A champion in the 100 meters, injured his leg at the end of the 100 meters in Sioux City, and finished second in class with a time of 11.40.
Also for the Braves, Luke Pearson turned in a solid time in the 800 meters, and Keaton Tuttle had a good day in the shot put, although no times or distances were reported.
