WHS tennis girls fall to Storm Lake

The Cherokee Washington High girls dropped a 7-2 Lakes Conference girls tennis match to Storm Lake here Monday night.

In varsity singles for Cherokee, Demi Dunn beat Amanda Helmbred 10-3 at #1, Allie Parker lost 10-5 to Linda Her at #2, Michelle McGarry lost 10-5 to Amanda Kavan at #3, Sydney Morton lost 10-1 to Samantha Kavan at #4, Amanda Kohn fell 10-5 to Emily Detes at #5, and Hillary Wilkie lost 11-9 to Iwa Chanthavang at #6.

In varsity doubles for Cherokee, Dunn and Parker beat Helmbred and Her 10-8 at #1, Jessica Cedar and McGarry lost 10-5 to Kavan and Kavan at #2, and Morton and Kohn fell 10-7 to Detes and Chanthavang at #3.

"Demi played well at #1 singles, winning her second match of the season," said Cherokee coach Jan Tracy. "She also won her doubles match with Allie for their first doubles win."

Cherokee won the JV match 5-4. In singles for Cherokee Jackie Wilson lost 8-2 at #1, Sanna Miller won 8-3 at #2, Aurora Buschkamp lost 8-4 at #3, Nicole Kellen won 8-3 at #4, Emily Estala lost 9-8 (7-5) at #5, and Denise Freed won 8-2 at #6.

IN JV doubles, Wilson and Miller won 9-7 at #1, Kelsey Raper and Janae Lundell won 9-8 (7-2) at #2, and Brianne Fowler and Jordan Miller lost 8-1 at #3.

The Cherokee girls play at Spirit Lake Park Friday night, and host Estherville-LC Monday night.
