Cherokee girls golf team stays busy

Spirit Lake won a Lakes Conference girls golf triangular at the Cherokee Golf & Country Club Monday night, carding a 200, followed by Le Mars 247, and Cherokee 254.

On Tuesday night, Cherokee competed in another triangular at Newell-Fonda, also featuring Storm Lake. Storm Lake won the meet with a 215, followed by Cherokee 224, and host N-F 226.

Spirit Lake's Ashley Neilsen was medalist with a 46, and her teammate Anna Hoss was runner-up with a 50.

For Cherokee, Emily Cook and Brooke Luekteman led the way with 59 each, followed by Kelsey Ludwig 65, Jessica Cook 71, Danielle Hansen 72, and Ally Curry 73. The Washington High girls played without leading scorer Amanda Callahan, who was out with illness.

In JV action for Cherokee, Jenna Phipps carded a 65, Tonya Stowater 69, and Brittani Cates 83.

At Newell-Fonda, Kaylynn Bland of the host Mustangs was medalist with a 50, and runner-up was Storm Lake's Beth Bedel, who also shot a 50.

For Cherokee, Amanda Callahan and Ludwig each carded a 52, followed by Emily Cook 57, Curry 63, Jessica Cook 64, and Hansen 65.

For Cherokee JV, Cates shot 60, followed by Luetkeman 64, Stowater 65, Phipps 67, and Emily Anderson 68.

Cherokee hosts Aurelia and Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn here tonight, and play in the Le Mars Invitational Saturday.
