In this, its 50th season, the Cherokee Community Theater is again preparing to present its annual musical. This year, Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" will be performed on June 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, and 28.
There are children in the cast, and there are also many featured roles for older actors and actresses. The directors are looking for actors and singers of various ages and vocal ranges, including a large chorus. The lead roles require a strong soprano and a baritone. "Beauty and the Beast" will be directed by Jacquelyn Courtright and Ruth Hayes, with musical direction by Joe Vannatta.
Tryouts for the cast of 11-20 will be held this Monday, April 27 and Tuesday, April 28, starting at 7 p.m. at the Cherokee Community Center.
Those auditioning for singing roles are asked to bring a prepared song, if they wish. If not, some familiar music will also be available, and there will also be a piano accompanist available.
Nothing happens in a theater presentation without the crew, though. Anyone who would like to use their artistic talents for set design, set construction and painting, costumes, makeup and hair design, props or stage manager is also welcome to come to the auditions.
