HINTON - The Galva-Holstein and River Valley girls competed in the recent Hinton Girls Blackhawk Relays here, with Le Mars Gehlen winning the Class B team title with 117 points.
Marcus-Meirden-Cleghorn was second with 74 points, followed by Remsen-Union 62, Galva-Holstein 55, Kingsley-Pierson 51, Remsen St. Mary's 48, Granville Spalding 36, River Valley 34, Hinton JV 9, and Woodbury Central 9.
The G-H girls won the distance medley relay in 4:40 with Sarah Rice, Courtnie Voss, Jayde Boyle, and Branna Mathes aboard. The 4x800 relay was second with Nicole Boyle, Sarah Galvin, Ashley Drey, and Meg Kofmehl clocked in 11:33. The 4x200 relay was third in 2:00 with Lindsey Joslin, Michaela Else, Emily Schiernbeck, and Jessie Mathes running.

Jessie Mathes was second in the long jump with a 14-0 1/2 leap, and Kohmehl was second in the 800 meters in a time of 2:43. Sarah Forristal was third in the 400 meters in 1:08, and Shannon Rohlk third in the high jump with a 4-4 effort. Brea Slaybaugh was fourth in the long jump with a 13-3 effort.
For River Valley, Kaysi Byers was first in the 3000 meters in 12:27, and second in the 1500 meters in 5:54. Brittany Hunwardson was fourth in the 400 meters in 1:11, and Nicole Morgan was fourth in the 100 hurdles in 18.61.
The Wolverines also were fourth in the 4x100 relay with Brittny Shropshire, Amber Bauer, Mackenzie Fitch, and Emily todd timed in 57.20.

At the Sioux City Relays last week for G-H track and field teams, the girls distance medley relay was second in Class B in 4:45 with Schiernbeck, Forristal, Jessie Mathes, and Branna Mathes aboard. The 4x800 relay of Jessie Mathes, Nicole Boyle, Jayde Boyle, and Breanna Mathers was fourth in 10:19.
In the boys competition, Mark Cronin was folurth in the shot put with a 47-3 3/4 effort, and Collin Bubke was fourth in the 110 hurdles in 16.72. The boys distance medley relay was second in 3:53 with Tyson Thoreson, Seth Johnson, Patrick McAreavy, and John Harris aboard.
