MAPLETON - The Western Valley Conference - North Division staged their weekly Girls' Golf Tournament here on Monday, and Remsen-Union took the team title with a team score of 205 strokes. Odebolt-Arthur finished second with 215 strokes, edging Battle Creek-Ida Grove and Galva-Holstein, who posted team scores of 218 and 219, respectively.
Once again this week, R-U's Gina Mae Frericks was the meet medalist with her total of 42, and - once again, for the third consecutive week - O-A's Brittany Walsh was runner-up medalist to Frericks. Walsh posted a score of 44 this time out.
Galva-Holstein's top four scorers were Jaime Christensen, 47; Sarah Forristal, 56; and Shawna Muckey and Natalie Waller, both of whom posted rounds of 58.
G-H Coach Mike Richard said, "The course at Mapleton was in great shape for early season golf. The larger and faster greens were a new challenge for our girls. They felt that this was the area that put the most strokes on their scores. We are going to have to continue to focus on strengthening our short games."
Richard said that Remsen-Union has sealed up first place in the Western Valley Conference-North Division. The final division meet will be next Monday at Odebolt-Arthur, and Odebolt-Arthur, Battle Creek-Ida Grove and Galva-Holstein are in a tight race for second place in the North Division.
The top three teams in the North Division will move on to play against the top three teams in the South Division in the Western Valley Conference Championship, to be played on May 11 in Denison.
