SHELDON - The Cherokee track and field Braves, with several performers absent due to injury, collected a first and two third-place finishes at last week's Sheldon Invitational.
The Braves lone first-place finish was the medley relay, with Kyle Schuck, Tony Hunt, Luke Pearson, and Dan Bieber clocking a 3:55. Cherokee's 4x400 relay of Dan Bieber, Philip Bieber, Schuck, and Pearson was third in a time of 3:43.
Cherokee's other third-place finish was Schuck's 15.7 time in the 110 hurdles.
The Braves tallied three fifth-place finishes, with Cody Stowater fifth in the shot put with a 44-1 effort; the 4x200 relay of Dan Bieber, Hunt, Philip Bieber, and Zach Mosbach fifth in 1:39; and the 4x800 relay of Philip Bieber, Jakob Hummel, Pearson, and Mosbach fifth in 8:57.
Nate O'Bryan was sixth in the 3200 meters in 11:09, and Keaton Tuttle sixth in the discus with a 127-10 throw.
Hull Western Christian won the varsity meet with 128 points, followed by orange City Unity Christian 126, Le Mars 100, Sheldon 91, South O'Brien 67, Sioux Center 58, Sibley-Ocheyedan 53, Cherokee 40, and Okoboji 37.
Cherokee placed fourth in the JV competition wth three first-place finishes. They were Brock Dagel's 41-10 1/2 shot put, Stowater's 114-02 discus throw, and Tyler McLaughlin's 5:33 time in the 1600 meters.
Alanzo Ruble's 17.96 time in the 110 hurdles was good for second place in the JV competition. Jon Hunt was third in the discus with a 107-10 effort; Ruble third in the high jump with a 5-4 leap; the Braves 4x400 relay of Hummel, Ruble, Scott Long, and Justin Long third in 4:06; and the medley relay of Kristian Freed, Justin Long, Scott Long, and McLaughlin third in 4:26.
Le Mars won the JV team title with 130 points, and Cherokee was fourth with 68.
