WHS tennis girls drop two matches

The Cherokee Washington High girls tennis squad stayed busy this week, playing back-to-back Lakes Conference meets Monday and Tuesday nights.

Cherokee lost 9-0 Monday night against Estherville-LC in Cherokee, and Tuesday night dropped another 9-0 decision at Spencer.

Against E-LC in varsity singles for Cherokee, Allie Parker lost 10-3 to Stephanie Wittmer at #1, Michelle McGarry lost 10-4 to Lexie Hash at #2, Sydney Morton lost 10-1 to Erin Olson at #3, Amanda Kohn fell 10-2 to Emily Swalve at #4, Hillary Wilkie fell 10-1 to Kaylene Vos at #5, and Sanna Miller lost 10-2 to Trisha Nelson at #6.

Cherokee played without regular #1 player Demi Dunn, who was out with illness.

In varsity doubles action, Parker and Miller lost 10-2 to Wittmer and Swalve at #1, McGarry and Morton lost 10-2 to Hash and Olson at #2, and Kohn and Wilkie lost 10-1 Vos and Nelson at #3.

E-LC also won the JV competition 9-0. IN JV singles, Aurora Buschkamp lost 8-1 at #1, Nicole Kellen fell 8-0 at #2, Jackie Wilson lost 8-0 at #3, Denise Freed lost 8-5 at $4, Emily Estala lost 8-3 at #5, and Amber Haupert lost 8-0 at #6.

In JV doubles, Jordan Miller and Kellen lost 8-2 at #1, Kelsey Raper and Jenae Lundell lost 8-1 at #2, and Brianna Fowler and Shelby Bingham lost 8-2 at #3.

In varsity singles at Spencer, Dunn lost 10-6 to Hannah Maertens at #1, Parker lost 10-3 to Jennifer Barnett at #2, McGarry lost 10-2 to Mackenzie Kabrick at #3, Morton lost 10-3 to Holly McCloud at #4, Kohn lost 10-1 to Jill Wittrock at #5, and Wilkie lost 10-2 to Lutda Lovan at #6.

IN varsity doubles, Dunn and Parker lost 10-2 to Barnett and McCloud at #1, McGarry and Morton lost 10-3 to Kabrick and Lovan at #2, and Kohn and Wilkie lost 10-3 to Wittrock and Abby Bedore at #3.

Spencer also won the JV match 9-0. In JV singles for WHS, Miller lost 8-2 at #1, Buschkamp lost 8-1 at #2, Wilson lost 8-1 at #3, Freed lost 8-3 at #4, Estala lost 8-4 at #5, and Fowler lost 8-4 at #6.

In JV doubles, Raper and Lundell lost 8-0 at #1, Haupert and Jordan Miller lost 8-0 at #2, and Bingham and Kellen lost 8-6 at #3.

The winless Cherokee girls play in the Lakes Conference Tournament Saturday at Storm Lake, and host Le Mars in Cherokee Monday night.
