The City of Cherokee has begun its annual Spring Yard Waste Pick-Up dates, and we can't say enough about the importance of all city residents to please participate in this vital community endeavor this season.
We implore residents to clean up their properties as best they can and follow the rules that will enable Sanitary Services to pick up all your yard waste to help beautify this lovely, scenic, Little Sioux River Valley community.
According to the City, yard waste will be picked up by Sanitary Services on your regular recyclable service day on the following dates:
West side of town (also Rock Island and Parkview Additions) - April 30 and May 21.
East side of town - Today (May 1) and May 22.
Sanitary Services also will be participating in city-wide clean-up in Aurelia May 14, July 16, and October 15; in Larrabee and Quimby May 6; Cleghorn May 13; and Washta May 20.
Yard waste will be picked up at residents' normal pick-up location, but must be kept separate from recyclables that are also picked up on those dates.
Yard waste will be picked up only if it is in PAPER sacks, boxes, or garbage cans. Plastic bags will NOT be picked up.
Branches must be tied in bundles and in lengths not to exceed 4 feet.
Yard waste also can be bagged or bundled and taken to the Sanitary Landfill by residents at no charge when the landfill is open.
Note: There is no open burning season of yard waste in the Cherokee City Limits.
Please, let's all embrace this worthwhile labor to help clean up Our Town after one bitter and long winter and several months of continuous snow cover that concealed a whole lot of yard waste, including human litter, as well as foliage, tree branches, and weeds.
Ready, set, go!
