It's the off week for both the "Cherokee Connection" radio program and "Jammin' With Mike Hoover," so what is going on in the Cherokee area this week? Not much that I know of, except for the blockbuster films, Wolverine and Star Trek, both playing at the American Theater.
Next Tuesday, May 12, you can become a frugal gardener by learning some hints and tips to make gardening easier and fun - while keeping more money in your pocket. The Cherokee County ISU Extension "Lunch & Learn" program, "The Frugal Gardener," will be presented beginning at 12 noon that day at the Extension Office, located at 209 Centennial Dr, Ste A. The program will include a light lunch, and lasts about one hour. The cost is just $5.00, payable at the door. Please call ahead (712- 225-6196) to reserve a spot.
NEXT Thursday, May 14, the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce will stage their annual "Hot Dog Days," where you can get yourself some hot dogs in downtown Cherokee from 5 p.m. until they're gone.
The Cherokee Connection program also returns to the air that evening (5:40 -6:40 p.m. on KCHE, 92.1 FM), and the scheduled guest, by telephone, is singer/songwriter Chad Elliott. Chad will be discussing his career with host Tim Gaydo, as well as his upcoming performance at The Gathering Place the following evening (Friday May 15 at 8 p.m. - admission is a donation at the door).
Mike Hoover returns Thursday night as well, with his every-other-week jam session at The Gathering Place, from 7 - 9 p.m. Admission is $5.
