WHS tennis girls fall to Tornadoes

STORM LAKE - The Cherokee Washington High girls dropped a 7-2 verdict to Storm Lake in Lakes Conference tennis action here Thursday night.

In varsity singles for Cherokee, Demi Dunn beat Amanda Helbrecht 10-6 at #1, Allie Parker lost 10-1 to Linda Her at #2, Michelle McGarry lost 10-6 to Amanda Kavan at #3, Sydney Morton lost 10-0 to Samantha Kavan at #4, Hillary Wilkie lost 10-3 to Emily Deters at #5, and Aurora Buschkamp lost 10-2 to Iwa Chantavong at #6.

In varsity doubles, Dunn and Parker beat Helmrecht and Samantha Kavan 10-7 at #1, McGarry and Morton lost 10-1 to Her and Amanda Kavan at #2, and Wilkie and Buschkamp lost 10-2 to Deters and Chantavong at #3.

Strom Lake also won the JV match 7-2. In JV singles for WHS, Sanna Miller lost 8-6 at #1, Jackie Wilson won 8-5 at #2, Denise Freed won 8-5 at #3, Emily Estrala lost 8-4 at #4, Brianna Fowler lost 8-2 at #5, and Shelby Bingham lost 8-2 at #6.

In JV doubles, Sanna Miller and Nicole Kellen lost 8-4 at #1, Jordan Miller and Amber Haupert lost 8-0 at #2, and Jenae Lundell and Kelsey Raper lost 8-2 at #3.

"Demi and Ally played hard in doubles and used some great strategies to win the match," said Cherokee coach Jan Tracy of her #1 varsity doubles team.
