On Thursday Hot Dog Day will again be held in Cherokee.

More than 25 merchants will be grilling from 5:30 p.m. until the hot dogs are gone.

This long-standing tradition in Cherokee continues and grows with the addition of the "Top Dog" competition. The grilling businesses will compete in three areas -- presentation of grilling area, creativity, and condiments. The competition is heating up every day. A trophy will be awarded to the winner to display for one full year at their business.

The CYSBA (Cherokee Youth Summer Ball Association) players and their coaches will march in a parade starting at 5:30 p.m. The parade will begin at the parking lot on the corner of North 5th and West Main and proceed east down Main Street to the Hy-Vee Drugstore parking lot. Come cheer on these young athletes and their coaches.

These fine businesses will be grilling this year: Allender Chiropractic, American Theatre, Bomgaars, Central Bank, Cherokee Lumber, Cherokee State Bank, Cherokee Villa Nursing and Rehab, Denny's Service/Copper Cup, Electric Beach/Curves, Fashionette, Darren's Clothing, Gustafson Realty, Hy-Vee Food Store, Hy-Vee Pharmacy, Hy-Vee Drugstore, Judy's Hallmark, Letsche's Bike Shop and Radio Shack, Northwest Realty, Royer's Jewelry, Quilt'n Kaboodle, United States Post Office, Valley Bank & Trust with Greenwood Funeral Home, VFW, and Wilson TV.

A total of 4,880 hot dogs will be grilled this year.

A big "thank you" to Tyson Retail Deli and all the staff there for the great locally-made hot dogs and to all those taking the time to grill for the community and their customers.
