Funeral services will be held Friday, May 15, at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Pastor Aaron Filipek of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Olathe, Kan. will officiate. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Marcus.
There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. at the Church on Friday. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursday at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.
Fern was born Dec. 8, 1918 at Remsen, to Claus and Rose (Grauer) Schroeder. She was baptized on May 30, 1920 at Remsen. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Marcus on March 25, 1934. She attended country school in Amherst Township and then at Marcus High School. She was married to Emory Brandt on April 4, 1942 at Rolla, Mo. The couple farmed south of Marcus until 1965 and then resided in Cherokee for 40 years. Fern moved to Olathe, Kan. three years ago. She did house cleaning, worked in a military store, was a housewife, helped her husband in the farming operation, and then worked in the housekeeping department at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee until retiring in April of 1986. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery work, cooking, camping, fishing and traveling.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Emory on Oct. 31, 2005, a sister Dorothy Ogren and her husband Harry, a sister Lorraine Schouten and her husband Wally, a brother Robert Schroeder, and nephews Gerald Ogren, and Lavern Ogren, and nieces Deanna Brandt and Kathy Schouten.
She is survived by her three children: Paulette Woltman and her husband Dale of Overland Park, Kan.; Barbara Van Houten and her husband Alan of Ida Grove; Dale Brandt and his wife Carol of Olathe, Kan.; 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law Gladys Schroeder of Cheroke
