A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday May 20, 2009 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cherokee. Rev. Armand Bertrand will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cherokee. There will be no visitation.

Catherine was born March 23, 1905 in Cherokee, the daughter of John and Mary (McKenna) Hanlon. After attending Immaculate Conception School in Cherokee and graduation from Quimby High School, she attended Burroughs Business School in Omaha, Neb. Catherine then went on to junior college in Cherokee and then received her degree from the University of Iowa. After teaching elementary school for several years in Cherokee County, Varina, and Mapleton, she moved to California where she taught school in San Bernardino and La Jolla, Calif. Catherine then moved back to Cherokee and worked as an office manager and lab technician for Dr. Albert Fritz for many years.
Catherine was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Ladies Guild, and the Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed playing bridge, music, reading, and spending time with her family, many relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Mae Hanlon, Margaret Hanlon Bulger, Geraldine Hanlon Hanson, Drs. Redmond Hanlon and John Hanlon, Don Hanlon; her nieces Sally Hanlon Berglund and Lynne Hanson LaDue.
Survivors include nieces Mary Hanlon Carroll of Spencer; Gerry Hanson King of Atlanta, Ga.; Deborah Hanson of Sioux City; Kathy Hanlon Bunt of Spirit Lake; nephew Mike Hanlon of Glenwood; her great-nephew and godson John Berglund, Pat Hanlon Nemmers of Cedar Rapids; Jack Hanlon of Denver, Colo.; several great nieces and nephews and their children, and her dear friends Linda Townsend Dierking and Donna Braband.
