Rena Ruth Drefke was born on Nov. 27, 1916 on her family's farm in Grand Meadow Township, Cherokee County, one of three children born to Warren and Maud (Whitmer) Baker. She attended Grand Meadow Consolidated School, graduating from high school in 1934. Following her education, Rena worked as a bookkeeper for the Grand Meadow School Superintendent, the Grand Meadow Store, and Nagle Brothers Clothing Store in Marcus.
On August 17, 1941 Rena and Forest "Frosty" Drefke were united in marriage at her parent's home in Grand Meadow. They made their home in Douglas, Arizona while Frosty served his country in the Army Air Corps during WWII. After the war they made their home on a farm near Marcus. Rena assisted Frosty with farming until their retirement in 1977. Frosty passed away on December 10, 1984 and Rena remained on the farm until moving to Riverview Terrace in Spencer, Iowa in 2002.
Rena was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus and participated in Ladies' Aid. She enjoyed taking trips with her sister Fern.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Forest; grandchildren Dean and Kristy Wittrock; a sister Fern Goodmanson; and a brother Lester Baker.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son Neal Drefke and his wife Cindy of Spencer; a daughter Julie Wittrock and her husband Ron of Tomahawk, Wis.; grandchildren Rhonda and John Repinski of Tomahawk, Wis., Craig Wittrock of Moriarty, N.M., Chris and Judit Pauling of Sarasota, Fla., Lyndsey Hoppe of Austin, Minn., and Beau Hoppe of Ames; great-grandchildren Taylor and Lexi Repinski, Matthew Wittrock, Skyler Richmond, and Juliet Pauling.
