38 area women attend Women of Faith Conference

Thursday, May 14, 2009

A group of 38 women from the Cherokee area traveled by bus to Des Moines on May 1 to attend the two-day "Women of Faith" conference at the Wells Fargo Arena. Several inspirational speakers and singers addressed the theme of 'A Grand New Day" during the conference. The "Women of Faith" tour visits 29 cities in the United States over the course of a year.

The women heard uplifting messages over the two days from Patsy Clairmont, Allison Allen, Sheila Walsh, Mandisa, Luci Swindoll, Marilyn Meberg, Lisa Whelchel, and special guest, Christian music artist Steven Curtis Chapman.

Before returning home on Saturday, the Cherokee women enjoyed a supper at the Iowa Machine Shed. The Cherokee group's trip was arranged by Pat Friedrichsen of Larrabee. Next year's conference will be held in Omaha, on August 13-14, 2010.

The group stopped for a bite to eat at the Iowa Machine Shop, located near the Living History Farms, on their way home Saturday. Photo contributed.
