ROCK ISLAND, Ill.- The CSFL Iowa Sharks based in Sutherland, hammered the Quad City Stallions 51-12 to open their 2009 season here Saturday night.
The Sharks led 18-0 after the first quarter and led 24-12 at halftime, before outscoring the Stallions 27-0 in the second half.
The Sharks touchdowns came on a 22-yard pass from Travfis Kooima to Rob Kolar, a 5-yard run by Mike Mosley, a 75-yard pass from Kooima to Andy Weitrich, a 51-yard run by Eric Hentges, an 8-yard run by Hentges, a 23-yard pass from Kooima to Weitrich, a 23-yard interception return by Taylor Larson, and a 13-yard run by Cody Pierce.
Kooima finished 13-19 passing for 221 yards and three TDs and two picks. Hentges led the rushing with eight carries for 105 yards, while Pierce had 13 husl for 62 yards, and Mosely 10 carries for 26 yards.
Hentges also led the defense in on nine tackles, while Dallas Mitchell had eight, Larson seven, Pierce seven, Taylor Wallin seven, and Clint Pierce and Mike Shannon six apiece.
Coach Butch Faulkenberry lauded the play of his offensive line of John Miller, Matt Paige, Justin Mulder, Tyler Phelan, and Brian Templer.
The Sharks play the River City Raiders (former Southeast Iowa Hawks) in Sutherland Saturday night, kick-off set for 6 p.m.
