CAASA to offer training program

Thursday, May 21, 2009

The Centers Against Abuse and Sexual Assault (CAASA), in conjunction with the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV), is offering a training for law enforcement and area service providers on Women's Use of Force. The training will be held at the Cherokee Community Center for 10 a.m.- 12 noon on Friday May 29.

This workshop uses film clips and discussion to examine the ways women (and men) use force in relationships with a critical focus on the issue of women and batterers. Changes in society's response to domestic violence and the unintended consequences on battered women are also reviewed. Key elements in making primary physical aggressor determinations and in advocating for victims arrested for violent offenses against their abusive partners will be addressed.

Trainer Kirsten Failsal has been with the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence since 1995, where she helps develop public policy, and provides technical assistance and training to agencies that impact battered women and their children.

Women's Use of Force is free of charge to attendees. If interested in attending, please contact Rhonda Dean, Executive Director at 262-4612 or email caasa_director@hotmail.com.
