The golf teams at Aurelia High School wrapped up their 2009 seasons this week with play in their respective Sectional Tournaments.
On Friday, the Aurelia girls played the District Tournament at Rockwell City, and finished in seventh place in the team scoring, carding a team total of 423 strokes. Alta was the Sectional champion, with a score of 367, followed by Southeast Webster and Odebolt-Arthur, both of whom needed 384 team strokes. Jennifer Jensen led the Aurelia girls with an 18-hole total of 93, followed by Amanda Felten, 98; Amanda Swanson, 105; and Kristun Tabler, 127.
The boys played at Odebolt-Arthur on Monday, and the Bulldogs finished in a tie for 4th place with Laurens-Marathon at 359. Newell - Fonda took the team title with 327 strokes, followed by BC-IG, 330 and Alta, 352. Nick Hirschman and Cam Meyer both shot rounds of 86 for the Bulldogs, tying them for 12th place in the individual competition, while Jarrett Heubrock shot a 92, Cody Glienke 95, Kody Pinkerton 103 and Travis Otto 112.
The tournament marked the end of Aurelia coach Tom Bohnenkamp's long coaching career at Aurelia. Bohnenkamp coached the boys' team for many years and added the Girls' team duties last season when John Lockin retired.
Lockin's daughter, LeAnn Patton, a former champion golfer for AHS who went on to golf at Iowa State University, and later served as her dad's assistant with the Aurelia girls, will take over as the Aurelia girls' coach next season. As of this writing, the boys' coaching position has not been filled.
