Things are hopping at the library during the month of May. The Youth in Action/4-H group enjoyed numerous games of bowling and delicious pizza at the Cherokee Bowl, Saturday, May 9 for their end of the year party. We'd like to thank Tim Gaydo for having us.
I had the pleasure of being a guest of the Kiwanis group on Tuesday, May 12 at Danny's. We had a scrumptious buffet lunch, I met several new people, and learned about what the Kiwanis group does for young people. After lunch I shared information about our Summer Reading Program, which will be in July. I'd like to thank Gil Bremicker and the group for the hospitality and interest in our reading program. I would be glad to come and share information about our reading program and other programs we have at the library with other community groups. So give me a jingle at the library at 225-3498.
Each Monday at 9:30 a.m. I read and sing with the Daycare children at Bright Beginnings. They are great little listeners and it's fun seeing how they react to the different stories they hear. So far I think Dog and Bear by Laura Vaccaro Seeger is one of their favorites.
Our Tuesday library storytime for preschoolers is slowly winding down. We will meet this Tuesday, May 19 at 10:30 a.m. and have our final storytime on May 26. There will be no storytime during the month of June. Then in July we will be starting our Summer Reading Program.
Speaking of our Summer Reading Program, Jomi Anderson and I will be going to the Roosevelt Elementary School on Monday, May 18 to do a short skit and presentation about our program. We will also present our program for the Middle School on May 26. A flyer will be sent home with each child to share the dates, times, and special events with their parents. Be sure to pick up our May newsletter when you come to the library. It has information about our program, also.
"Be Creative @ Your Library is the theme for our Summer Reading Program. We will be focusing on the arts through stories, guest performers, crafts, and activities.
Linda Laird from Orange City will present a puppet show, "Pockets Full of Fun" on Friday, June 12th @ the Community Center. This will be a Pre-Kick-Off program and jump start people thinking about joining us at the library for some stories and fun. So mark your calendars and come join in the fun and laughter with Linda Laird.
Magician Chris Collins will officially kick-off our "Be Creative @ Your Library" reading program on July 1st @ the Community Center with his Wheel of Amazement. Each week our young patrons will read books, receive prizes, hear stories, do activities, and share in the fun. Watch for more details in the JUNE NEWSLETTER.
