Darlene D. Hirschman, 75, of Cherokee died Thursday May 21, 2009 in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday May 23 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. Rev. Armand Bertrand officiated. Burial was in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cherokee. Visitation was held on Friday, May 22 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. Darlene was born Oct. 24, 1933 in Irene, S.D. to William and Ann (Christiansen) Hauger. She attended school in Irene, S.D., graduating from high school in 1951. On June 6, 1955 she married Richard Hirschman in Mayfield, S.D. They moved to Cherokee in August of 1955. Darlene worked for Northwestern Bell, Community Center, and Casey's General Store. She was a longtime member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Tom Hauger; a brother-in-law, Wayne Pasco.

Survivors include her husband; Richard J. Hirschman, of Cherokee; sons, Steven Hirschman, and his wife, Kelli, of Aurelia; Rick Hirschman, of Des Moines; daughters, Renee Conley, and her husband, Dan, of Cherokee; Jan Koch, and her husband, Peter, of Batavia, Ill.; Sue Hirschman, of Fort Dodge; brothers, Clarence Hauger, and his wife, Rose, of Yankton, S.D.; Richard Hauger, and his wife, Maris, of Irene, S.D.; sisters, Dorothy Pasco, of Yankton, S.D.; Carol O'Gara, and her husband, Roger, of Elkhorn, Neb.; Gloria Storgaard, and her husband, Jim, of Irene, S.D.; a sister-in-law, Carol Hauger, of Yankton, S.D.; grandchildren, Kati Hirschman, Amy Hirschman and her fiancée, Nate Lewis; Nick Hirschman, Tyson Conley and his wife, Julia; Jon Conley and his fiancée, Kim Reeves; Christopher Koch, Jessica Koch; and a great-grandson, Coy Lewis.
