Robert W. Brunk, 92, of Los Angeles, Calif. originally from Cherokee, passed away Friday, June 5, 2009 at the Brotman Medical Center in California.
Graveside services will be held Friday, June 12 at 1:30 p.m. at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. There will be military rites at the cemetery by L. A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. There will be no visitation. The Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee has charge of the arrangements.
William was born Aug. 28, 1916 in Cherokee, to William F. and Hazel (Mahoney) Brunk. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1934.
He attended the University of Iowa and later the University of Southern California, graduating in 1949. He served in the U. S. Navy as a Lieutenant (JG) from 1942 until 1946, and in the U. S. Coast Guard from 1952 until 1955 as a Lieutenant Commander. He worked for the Iowa Highway Commission in Cherokee from 1935 until 1939, the Cleghorn State Bank from 1939 until 1941, and for the California Department of Transportation from 1958 until his retirement on December 21, 1996.He was affiliated with the Presbyterian Church.
Bob made his home in Los Angeles for many years, and previously lived in San Diego and San Francisco. He was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by several cousins.
