Wednesday, June 10, 2009

Laura Halder of Cherokee, who received a bachelor's degree in chemistry and biology from Central College in May, is the recipient of the 2008-09 Chemistry Senior Award and the Biology Senior Award, two of Central's academic awards presented annually to students demonstrating dedication and commitment to their studies.

The chemistry award is given to an outstanding senior majoring in chemistry. The award includes membership and a subscription to The Chemist.

The biology award is given to a student entering graduate or professional school. A cash award and a one-year membership in the Iowa Academy of Science are given to a top graduating senior.

Halder received the Analytical Chemistry Award, an award given to a chemistry major chosen by the analytical chemistry professor, in 2008. In 2006, she received the Freshman Award, given to a freshman who has gained highest achievement in Chemistry 131 and 235.

Halder is the daughter of Kevin and Kathi Halder, and is a 2005 graduate of Washington High School.
